Flumergex is delighted to announce the release of our first album of cheerful seasonal holiday music, Pagan Yuletide Carols Vol. 1.

True to form, these are quirky Flumergex takes on traditional holiday classics, with perhaps a few surprising selections.
The track list is:
- Over the River and Through the Woods (Lyrics: Lydia Marie Child; Music: Traditional)
- O Family Come Gather (Lyrics: Jesse S. Smith, Music: Traditional)
- O Solstice Night (Music: Adophe Adam; Lyrics: Adolphe Adam, John Dwight Sullivan, Placide Cappeau, and Jesse S. Smith)
- Jingle Bells (Music & Lyrics: James Lord Pierpont)
- Down In Yon Forest (Music & Lyrics: Traditional)
- The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire) (Music and Lyrics: Mel Torme and Robert Wells)
- Auld Lang Syne (Music and Lyrics: Robert Burns)
- Greensleeves (Music and Lyrics: Traditional)
Some might say that one or more of those selections is not a proper holiday song; but we say, it’s all in good fun! Be merry and rejoice this holiday season, because the light is returning, and you can choose to embody that light.
The new Flumergex album Pagan Yuletide Carols Vol. 1 should be available on your favorite music streaming platform or digital download service. (If you’re not sure where to start, try Amazon Music.) Note: on Pandora this album is listed under “Flumergex (Holiday)” because apparently they keep an artist’s holiday music separate from the artist’s other music.
This ended up being a short album because we were faced with the choice of either getting it done in time for the holidays, or else waiting for another couple of years. Jesse had started recording some of the basic tracks some five-ish years ago (during an early phase of the Broken Pieces sessions), but then the project had been shelved for some time. Dusting it off early in 2024, Jesse started completing those tracks. Getting all the overdubs recorded and mixed in time for the holiday season entailed a surreal sort of “Christmas in July” experience of singing holiday songs during the summer months. “I felt like one of those people who wants to just keep up the decorations all year round,” comments Smith.
With its emphasis on family, tradition, togetherness, and rebirth as seen through the frame of the holiday spirit, Pagan Yuletide Carols Vol. 1 is sure to intrigue listeners; possibly to delight, and perhaps to offend: because this is, after all, rock and roll.
(And yes, we have do have plans for a future Volume 2 to complement this album, so stay tuned for that!)
